- 고전 설화 『떰깜』을 활용한 베트남 영상 콘텐츠의 여성 재현 고찰 -
본고는 고전 설화 『떰깜』을 소재로 하여 만든 베트남 영화 Tấm Cám: Chuyện chưa kể(이하 ‘영화’)와 웹드라마 Tâm sắc Tấm(이하 ‘드라마’)에 나타난 여성의 이미지와 젠더 문제를 살펴보았다. 민담으로 분류되는 베트남 설화 『떰깜』은 전통시대 남성들의 ‘모성 이데올로기’에 대한 환상이 만들어낸 여성 중심의 서사다. 남성 중심의 가족 제도와 질서를 정당화하기 위해 가정 내 여성들 간의 갈등의 가해자는 모성 이데올로기의 억압 속에서 ‘본래 심성이 악랄하다’고 규정된 계모여야 했다. 『떰깜』이 주장하는 이상적인 여성상인 ‘순종적인 딸’, ‘헌신하는 아내’, ‘완벽한 어머니’의 모습은 가부장제 사회에서 남성이 여성에게 요구했던 억압된 삶의 허상일 뿐이다. 『떰깜』에 상징적으로 함축된 이러한 ‘시대착오적인 여성관’은 영화와 드라마로 각색되면서 조금씩 변형되었다. ‘사극’으로 제작된 영화에서는 여주인공 ‘떰(Tấm)’이 자신의 행복을 찾기 위해 주체적으로 생각하고 적극적으로 행동하는 면모를 다소 보이기는 했지만, 결국에는 남성 중심 사회의 전통적인 사고방식을 벗어나지 못하는 모습을 보였다. 그로 인해 영화가 묘사하는 이상적인 여성상은 ‘순종하고 희생하는 착한 딸과 아내’의 모습에 머물렀다. 반면, ‘현대극’으로 재탄생한 드라마는 자신의 삶을 개척하는 데 있어 독립적이고 적극적인 여성 ‘떰(Tâm)’을 주인공으로 내세워 ‘포스트페미니즘 드라마’의 면목을 보여 주었다. 기존의 설화에서 볼 수 있었던 ‘선과 악’의 대결을 여성의 ‘내면과 외모’ 간의 경쟁으로 전환하여 ‘여성 내면의 주체적인 성장’의 중요성을 강조했다. 또한 여성들 간의 자매애와 연대의 가능성을 보여줌으로써 보다 발전적인 여성상을 제시했다. 다만, 여성의 주체성과 자립성을 강조하다보니 상대적으로 남성들의 이미지가 부정적으로 묘사된 면이 없지 않다.
A Study on The Female Representation of Vietnamese Video Contents Using the Folktale Tam Cam : Focusing on the movie Tam Cam - The Untold Story and the web-drama Tam sac Tam
This Study examines the image and gender issues of women appearing in the Vietnamese movie Tam Cam: The Untold Story and web-drama Tam sac Tam based on the folktale Tam Cam. The Vietnamese folktale Tam Cam is a female-centered narrative created by the fantasies of men in the traditional era about the “Maternal Ideology”. In order to justify the male-centered family system and order, the perpetrator of conflicts between women in the family had to be a stepmother who was stipulated as “inherently vicious in nature” amid the oppression of maternal ideology. The image of a “submissive daughter”, “devoted wife” and “perfect mother”, the ideal female image claimed by Tam Cam, is just an illusion of the oppressed life that men demanded of women in a patriarchal society. This “anachronistic view of women” symbolically implied in Tam Cam has been transformed little by little as it has been adapted into movies and dramas. In the historical movie, Tam Cam: The Untold Story, the heroine Tam showed some aspects of independent thinking and active action in order to find her own happiness, but in the end, she was unable to deviate from the traditional way of thinking of a male-centered society. As a result, the ideal woman image portrayed in the movie remained in the form of a “good daughter and wife who obey and sacrifice”. On the other hand, the web-drama Tam sac Tam directed as a modern drama showed the aspect of a Post-feminist drama with Tam as the main character, an independent and active woman in pioneering her own life. It emphasized the importance of 'women's inner self-growth' by converting the confrontation between 'good and evil' seen in the folktale into a competition between women's 'inside and outside'. In addition, it presented a more developed image of women by showing the possibility of sisterhood and solidarity among women. However, it is disappointing that the image of men is portrayed in a relatively negative way as it emphasizes the subjectivity and independence of women.
